KP CM Ends Sit-In Over Denied Imran Khan Meeting

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi ended his sit-in at Adiala Jail’s Factory checkpost in Rawalpindi on Thursday. The protest began after he was barred from meeting PTI founder Imran Khan. Afridi then went to the Islamabad High Court to raise the issue directly with the chief justice. He said the court order allowing the meeting was being ignored and promised to file a formal request.
Earlier, Afridi’s team held talks with the Adiala Jail administration to negotiate access. Participants included the jail’s assistant superintendent, Afridi’s CSO, police officials, and KP Minister Meena Khan Afridi. They sought a written explanation for the denial and assurances about Imran Khan’s health. The KP delegation also requested approval for a meeting between Afridi, a PTI leader, and the party founder.
Afridi emphasized that all required procedures had been followed but he was still denied access. He said the situation was unprecedented and drew international attention. Afridi stated that his team demanded a written justification from authorities. He warned that growing public concern about Imran Khan’s health could trigger nationwide unrest if not addressed.
The sit-in came amid rising political pressure and tight security along Adiala Road. Police blocked Afridi from approaching the jail, prompting him to stage the protest at the Factory checkpoint. He was accompanied by MNA Shahid Khattak, MPA Meena Khan Afridi, and other party leaders. Additional police were deployed at nearby checkpoints to manage the tense situation.
Afridi stressed that the meeting was necessary to confirm Imran Khan’s health and calm public concern. He warned authorities that continued denial would force the KP government to consider further steps. The situation remains a key point of tension between provincial leadership and prison authorities. Negotiations are ongoing as the political standoff continues to attract national attention.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi returned from Adiala Jail on Thursday after being denied permission to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, despite having informed both federal and Punjab authorities in advance.
Speaking to reporters outside the jail, Afridi expressed disappointment over the lack of response from relevant authorities. “The Prime Minister congratulated me on assuming office and said he would check on the meeting request, but I received no answer,” he said.
Afridi had planned the meeting to consult Imran Khan regarding the formation of the KP provincial cabinet. “The cabinet will be formed in consultation with the PTI founder,” he stated, adding that an advisory council under his leadership would also be established. “As Chief Minister, I will form the advisory council — who else will?”
